An original and transformative approach to the ordinary
Barbara Stahura
Freelance Writer

My first collection of personal essays, What I Thought I Knew, has been released by Wyatt-Mackenzie Publishing, Inc.  (Pardon me if I add a woo-hoo! here.)

Sept. 12: In Tucson, join us at Antigone Books at 411 N. Fourth Ave. at 7 p.m. for my first Arizona reading from What I Thought I Knew. Joining me will be my friend Penny Porter, a writer for many years, who has been called “one of the most successful freelancers ever to hit Reader’s Digest.” Thanks to Liza Porter, host of the Other Voices Reading Series, for inviting us to be September’s featured readers.

Sept. 18: I will be the guest of Mike Connor and Stephen Lewis, co-author of the novel Sanctuary: The Path to Consciousness on their program on Talkshoe.com. This podcast will discuss the energetic components to life, and how personal and spiritual growth revolves around the theme of going within and listening to our own higher consciousness. If everything is energy, then anything is possible!  Listen in on Thursday, September 18, 2008 at 9 AM (Pacific), 10 AM (Mountain), 11 AM (Central), 12 PM (Eastern).  To listen in LIVE or download anytime, go to www.talkshoe.com/tc/1329

Sept. 27-28: Wrangling with Writing conference in Tucson, sponsored by the Society of Southwestern Authors. I am honored to be co-director with Penny Porter, who has for years been the unstoppable force and guiding light behind this event. This is Arizona’s largest writers conference, with 40 workshops covering many genres and publishing information, three inspiring keynoters, and opportunities to meet one-on-one with agents, editors, and publishers who are looking for manuscripts.

Oct. 10: Join essayist Connie Spittler and me at 5:30 p.m. for a reading and book signing at In Spiritu, located at 6061 E. Broadway Blvd., Tucson. In the serene atmosphere of this lovely gift shop, I will read from What I Thought I Knew, and Connie will read from her new book,  The Desert Eternal, Words & Images. In it, her nature essays are illustrated with breathtaking color photos by her husband, Robert. Together, they capture the spirit, beauty, and surprises of the Sonoran landscape. Space is limited and refreshments will be served, so please RSVP to Lisa Nutt at In Spiritu by calling 829-6790.

Oct. 21: Once again joining Bob Yehling, I’ll be a featured reader at Third Tuesday Writers Coffeehouse, a reading sponsored by Brescia University in Owensboro, Ky.

Oct. 23: I’ll be back in my old stomping grounds of Evansville, Ind., to join a group of readers at Barnes & Noble for a lively evening of prose and readings.

Oct. 24-25: In Evansville, I’ll be presenting a journaling workshop for brain injury survivors called “After Brain Injury: Telling Your Story.” Thanks to Cecile Martin, owner of Bodyworks Massage Institute, at 2112 Maxwell Ave., for hosting this workshop. Watch for more information on this event.

Nov. 8: Mariposa Books & More in Patagonia, Arizona, is hosting a reading and signing from 2-4 p.m. by Barbara Stahura (What I Thought I Knew), Bob Yehling (The River-fed Stone), and Connie Spittler (The Desert Eternal, Words & Images).  Location to be announced.
